About Us
Martin’s Migration:
We are extremely passionate about the outdoors and all of the opportunity it provides. It is something we want to help motivate others to experience with the goal to try and understand the sense of peace and calmness it can provide. Chaos, stress, and anxiety is something that seems to be running rampant in our world today. Something my wife and I both personally struggle with heavily. It is our goal to share content that makes you feel happy, warm, and inspired to go out and have an adventure of your own all while maintaining an honest and uncensored approach about our failures and shortcomings. Learning from our failures and sharing those lessons is incredibly important. We want to share our experiences and adventures to show others the importance of disconnecting from the internet and spending time with those you love doing activities that bring life back into your soul. We want to positively inspire people to seek experiences that spark a close examination of life, create a deep appreciation for the beauty of life, and ultimately result in creating a lifelong commitment to explore and protect the Natural World that binds us all together.
Secondly, neither of us are pro athletes or even think we are the best bikers, photographers, or content creators the world has ever seen. It isn’t even our goal to be the “best” at any of these. Our goal is to simply be the absolute best version of ourselves we can possibly become. We believe in goal setting and the constant pursuit of knowledge. We simply believe having fun, making memories, and continually improving ourselves to achieve our goals is what life is all about. Figure out who you are, build your team to do life with, set your goals, and get to work. The cherry on top? Well, that is taking all these beliefs and, most importantly, lessons learned and paving a path for others to build a life they can grow and develop in too!
Life Beyond Martins Migration:
My Name is Craig Martin. I am currently a First Lieutenant in the US Army serving as a 13A (Field Artillery Officer). I have spent the last 4 years on Active Duty in the Army and have had some really neat experiences doing so. It has been an experience I will forever cherish and remember, but also one that taught me a lot about life and what is truly important to me. I discovered what I really want to get out of life and the goals I wish to achieve. I had the opportunity to do some various jobs and attend various schools during my time in the Army. I was a Gold Bar Recruiter at Purdue University, a Platoon Leader at Fort Sill Oklahoma, an assistant Operations Planning Officer in 17th FAB at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), and most recently I was the Brigade Comptroller (Budget/ Finance Officer) for 17th FAB at JBLM. I attended Basic Officer Leader Course at For Sill, Oklahoma and graduated in the top 10% of the class, earned my Expert Soldier Badge (ESB) on my first attempt and placed first in the 12 mile ruck march, graduated from The Sabaluski Air Assault School as the Honor Graduate, attended Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Course and became (JFO certified), among various other experiences. My last job in the Army, being the Brigade Comptroller, one was a very odd expiernce. I was trained as an artillery officer but befriended the brigade Comptroller prior to me while on a training exercise for a couple months in Thailand. He was leaving the position to go to Captains Career Course and so I thought it would be a unique challenge and learning expiernce to volunteer for the position. Again, something I was severely underqualified to do. I interviewed and was accepted into the position and it was what I thought it would be. Fun, very challenging, ultra steep learning curve, and a great deal of stress. But I learned such an incredible amount from being so incredibly uncomfortable. Truly an expiernce I think I have learned the most from so far. I graduated from Purdue University in May 2021 with a degree in Industrial Engineering Technology and commissioned as a 2LT into the Army about the same time. I am a huge fan of fitness and all things outdoors. I enjoy competing in triathlons and endurance events all together. My favorite fitness activity though is Mountain biking. From the mind game of pedaling for miles up big hills to the technical skill required for fast playful descents to the technical knowledge required to maintain your kit, it truly is the ultimate sport in my mind. My wife, Claire, and I love doing these activities together. Whether it be running, biking, hiking, or simply lounging about and watching a movie. Our honeymoon was even to Moab Utah where we Mountain Biked and hiked! We both love being active outdoors and have seen so much benefit from it in our lives and our marriage that we want to do our best to inspire others to do the same. We recently got a dog named Spoke! He is in training to become a trail dog to hike and bike with us! He is absolutely hilarious and has been an amazing addition to out lives!
Beliefs:
Above all, my wife and I are Christians. We believe Jesus died on the cross to save us. We believe partaking in all the experiences above, it is possible to discover and grow in our relationship with Christ. Sometimes its prayers of safety and other times it is prayers of thanks for the experiences! There is something magical about sitting around a campfire or sharing in adventure that creates this perfect, judgement free, safe zone to have deep and personal conversations about one’s beliefs. It frankly is a very neat expiernce learning about why or what someone believes when real conversation can take place and there is no sense of judgement for simply disagreeing about what comes next or our motivations behind our morals. We believe it is important to share what we believe to be the truth and leave it up to those that want to partake in conversation to believe what they choose!
The Passions:
I am an avid mountain biker, hiker, and all around adventurer and traveler. I discovered a passion for photography while on a mountain bike trip with my best friend to Moab Utah during my junior year of college. He wanted to spend one night out at Delicate Arch shooting a star trail. This was the first time I watched something like this and the process required for it. I immediately fell in love with the technical requirements for operating the equipment and ultimately creating this idea and bringing it to life! Was truly mind blowing to me and something I wanted to learn how to do. Over time, I started merging photography and mountain biking (and continuing to grow these categories!) into one combined hobby. I have since had a blast doing so!
Van Life:
We are in the process of converting a 2023 Mercedes Sprinter Van (170) into our home on wheels! We want to spend some time after I am out of the Army here soon exploring and sharing some fun adventures together. There are so many neat places to visit, and we do not want to be trapped in the idea that we can only cross one place a year off the travel list if we were to buy a home and settle down somewhere right now. Why not spend some time in our young years exploring and seeing all the thing we want to see? Plan to see as much of the US as we can, Canada, drive through Alaska, take the van to Hawaii, and take the next leap to New Zealand! We are not sure how long we will do Van Life, but we see no need to set a limit for as long as we are enjoying the life style.
